About Allan Slaight

Allan Slaight was a well-known and respected figure in the Canadian media industry. He was born in 1931 in Toronto, Canada. While growing up Slaight became interested in learning, studying and performing magic.  This led him to a strong interest in radio and broadcasting. This interest led him to pursue a career in media, and he went on to become one of Canada's leading media and broadcasting executives.

Slaight started his career as a radio announcer, and later worked as a salesperson and manager for several radio stations. In the 1960s, he founded Standard Broadcasting Corporation Ltd., which went on to become one of Canada's largest privately held media companies. Standard Broadcasting owned and operated several radio stations and other media properties, including the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame.

Throughout his career, Slaight was known for his innovative approach to broadcasting, and was responsible for launching several new programs and formats. He was also a strong advocate for the Canadian music industry, and helped promote Canadian talent both nationally and internationally.

In addition to his business achievements, Slaight was also a philanthropist who supported a range of causes and organizations. He established the Allan Slaight JUNO Master Class, which provides mentorship and training to aspiring musicians, and also supported initiatives in the areas of health care, education, and the arts. He also left behind the a generous donation to continue the push the art of magic further with the Slaight Family Foundations Allan Slaight Awards with Magicana.

Allan Slaight passed away in 2018, but his legacy as a visionary media executive and philanthropist continues to be remembered and celebrated in Canada.
